december’s remedy
My 14-year old got his first cold of the season last week so I was grateful to have my Immune Syrup ready. While his friends were home sick and missed several days of school, he recovered quickly and did not miss any school. I’m pretty sure it’s because he had a couple shots of this syrup everyday as soon as his symptoms started. I actually take a shot of this every morning in my tea. It adds a little sweetness to my daily herbal tonic of nettle, oat straw and red clover and gives me constant protection against colds and allergies.
Twiggy Moon’s Immune Boost Syrup
Bring to boil:
1 c. dried elderberries
1/4 c. astragalus root
1/4 c. rose hips
1/4 c. echinacea root
1/4 c. cherry bark
2 sticks cinnamon
3 generous slivers of ginger
3 slices of lemon and/or 3 slices of orange
3 star of anise
1 tsp of cloves
4 1/2 c. water
Reduce to simmer. Simmer until liquid is reduced by half. Drain and squish.
I often put the squished goods back in the pot and cover with more water and reduce again.
Add honey at 1/2 : 1 ratio or whatever suits your taste buds.
Pour into bottle, store in fridge.
Dose: 1 T for adults, 1 tsp. for littles daily or 3x/day for acute symptoms.
